Making a Guitar

Below is a stage by stage example of how we made Jacks Guitar. All our guitars are handmade by either Gordon or Rob, both experienced luthiers. Our guitars are custom built with plenty of input from the customer. To see some of our previous guitars view our guitar gallery.

 

1. 2 blocks of English Figured Sycamore, unsplit.

 

2. Cut to 2 inches thick, split into two with matching grain.

 

3. Book matched pair.

 

4. Jointed pair with outline.

 

5. Jointed pair, cut out.

 

6. Routing (nice hand model).

 

7. Profile ready for carving.

 

8. Roughly carved front and back.

 

9. Neck block from same piece of wood.

 

10. Reverse neck laminated, the opposing grain neutralises the tension, giving a more stable neck.

 

11. Neck of guitar fixed in.

 

12. With f holes.
